From Chris Colbath-Hess
There will be a mentor training class on Thursday, June 23rd and Friday, June 25th in the TRC at the high school. It will be co-taught by K-Lo Special Educator Lisa Rosenberg and Karyn Grace, OSS Coordinator of Curriculum, Instruction and Inclusive Education.
The course will include training in the targeted skills mentors need in adult development, coaching and conferencing strategies, classroom management, confidentiality, and CPS specific policies (among others), so that they are able to support our newest CPS teachers well. Ten PDPs will be offered for completing the training.
If you have already been trained, you do not need to attend this workshop.
If you have NOT been trained as a mentor, then you need to attend this workshop in order to continue being a mentor.
(I will try to offer this again during the school year, but have not yet been able to schedule that.)
Well-trained mentors provide one of the most important supports in that first year of teaching and one that can make a big difference in our ability to retain those new teachers.
Please let me know if you will be attending!
Best,
Chris
